Slash is going mainstream?

Given some recent posts going around about how people got into fandom and whether or not they are in the slash closet, this article in the Village Voice caught my eye. The VV may not be the NY Times or the WSJ, but it has to be the first time I've seen a mainstream media article use the word buttsex in caps within the first two paragraphs of an article on fans.

Some months back there was a post here on the availability of Yaoi tote bags at Borders but the article raises concerns of fans at Yaoi-Con that the underage fans into the genre are going to bring far too much of the wrong kind of attention to what was previously under the radar. Given other recent events such as a crackdown by the U.S. Justice Department on written online porn, how concerned should fandoms be about the attention that is increasingly paid to slash from outside the fandom? Or in the words of one quoted fan That's our next hurdle: How do we get this into the mainstream without a huge backlash?
